My father, Joe Nygra, captured these images with his 16mm film camera. He was born in Italy in 1910 and moved to Chicago at the age of three with my grandmother. In 1935 he joined the newly formed Roller Derby and quickly became a skating star known across the country as "The Villian". The road was his home.

The few samples on this page are from a huge collection of footage available. These watermarked video clips are a projection capture with a general camera focus and exposure setting. For the most part the actual films have excellent exposure and focus which would be revealed in a proper digital scan.
